The goal of the River Hill High School Music Program is to present polished musical performances of a professional caliber. We will perform only the highest quality literature, which includes the symphonic, chamber, marching, and jazz repertoires. Our audience may range from groups within the school, to the extended River Hill community, to the community at large. We will rehearse en masse and practice individually in a way that continually stretches the outer boundaries of our abilities as musicians. We will seek outside opportunities to grow as musicians. Most importantly, in all of our musical activities we will seek to challenge ourselves as both musicians and people.

Due to a devastating fire at Wilde Lake High School, River Hill High School opened its doors in the fall of 1996 as Wilde Lake High School at River Hill, while Wilde Lake High School was being rebuilt. It was not until the fall of 1998 that River Hill actually began its life as the 9th high school in Howard County.
